Do you have experience using an advance directive for psychiatric care?
We are supporting Disability Rights Vermont (DRVT) on a legal case involving advance directives for psychiatric care. We hope to find survivors willing to share their personal stories. If you have filed an advance directive, and were later hospitalized, we would love to hear from you.
- Was your advance directive used successfully?
- Did you specify preferred medications, or no medication?
- Were your preferences honored?
- Did having an advance directive lead to beneficial outcomes?
Please email Calvin Moen to share your story.
Would you like to learn more about advance directives?
Advance directives are legal documents stating your personal medical preferences. They are used if you are ever determined to lack capacity to make decisions. They can include preferred medications and details about how you would like to be supported in a crisis. They can also name a person who you trust to make medical decisions for you.
