Vermont Psychiatric Survivors sponsors the start-up of peer support groups statewide.  VPS sponsors the groups. We don’t run them. People submit a proposal and are responsible for most of details in the design of the groups. The group manages its own budget and makes decisions about its direction. Many support groups are rigidly structured and ask members to follow certain ideologies. VPS groups have a clear purpose, but the way in which that purpose is carried out can be as creative as people want to get. This freedom allows for leaders to develop, people to grow, and recovery to happen.
